29 Jul Five Star Summer Suggestions
With social interactions limited, many of us are taking advantage of outdoor activities which are safer in terms of virus transmission. Having daylight until later at night, lounging in chairs by a pool, grilling out, or going on boat rides are some experiences that make summer fun. Having fun hanging out with friends and family, it’s easy to forget to take care of ourselves. Check out our reminders and tips to stay on the right track in the heat of summer.
It’s important to apply sunscreen to protect your skin from the intense summer UV rays. Even if it isn’t a particularly sunny day, harmful UV rays still persist through the clouds and can cause permanent skin damage. Wearing a hat, reapplying sunscreen every couple of hours, and using chap stick that offers SPF also help keep your skin safe.
Just as important as protecting your skin from the harmful UV rays, it is important to protect your eyes. UV rays can cause growths and put you at risk for cataracts. Look for sunglasses that are labeled 100% UV protection.
While you’re enjoying time outside if you start to feel tired and a little light headed, your body is letting you know that it is time to spend some time in air-conditioning and to drink water. Heat exhaustion can lead to heat stroke – be sure you don’t ignore the signs. Keep an eye on friends and family who are more susceptible to heat exhaustion – i.e. infants, young children, elderly, people w/chronic medical conditions, etc.
If you have a bit too much fun in the sun, there are some foods and supplements that can help you out with everything from parched hair to muscle cramps.
Love being outside, but hate suffering the consequences with allergy symptoms? Check out essential oils that could help ease your pain.
Summer is the perfect time for barbeques and ice cream outings, and it is important to make sure your body is getting enough nutrition and staying hydrated. Try including fruits in your menus – such as watermelon and berries that are high in antioxidants and have plenty of water content to quench your thirst.
Have fun in the sun AND let us support you taking care of yourself so that you can make the most of ALL of your summer days . . .
